How You Begin Builds the Day

Building a flywheel of success for life and career

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” — Mark 1:35

Jesus had a rhythm. Before the crowds, before the miracles, before the demands of ministry, He withdrew to a quiet place to pray. It wasn’t random. It was regular. In those early hours, He sought the Father, realigned His purpose, and returned with strength for the day.

I’ve followed a morning rhythm for years. My routine starts simply: I brush, drink water to rehydrate after sleep, and allow my body to reset and release. These ordinary acts help me feel alert and present as I open the Bible. Some years, I follow a Bible-in-a-year plan. Other years, I focus deeply on a particular book or theme. Then comes prayer. I rotate themes across the week—friends on Mondays, family on Tuesdays, and so on.

Next, I move my body—sometimes with a jog, a swim, or a home workout—depending on the day. If rain keeps me indoors, I read or write. My wife and I pray together, and then we gather as a family over breakfast, sharing plans, updates, or even what we’ve been reflecting on. By the time those first three hours pass, I’ve already touched the spiritual, physical, personal, and relational parts of life.

This isn’t about willpower. It’s about removing decisions. I don’t ask, “Should I do this?” I simply follow the rhythm. It builds momentum. It keeps anxiety at bay. No email or headline sets my tone. God does.

Jesus didn’t wait for stillness. He made it. And every day He began with the Father, He walked forward in clarity and courage.

When your morning is aligned, your mission gains momentum._**
