Not Inferior. Not Superior. I Am His.
Building a flywheel of success for life and career
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”— Proverbs 18:21
As a child, I was drowning in an inferiority complex. I felt small, not in intellect but in identity. I avoided people, thinking they wouldn't want to talk to someone like me—a village boy with poor English and no confidence. Though I performed well academically, my self-worth was quietly eroding. The fewer friends I had, the more isolated I became. That isolation, in turn, deepened my sense of inadequacy. No one around me noticed. Not because they didn’t care, but because I masked it with good grades.
College was even worse. Everyone seemed better: better-looking, better-spoken, better-dressed. I shrank further and became convinced that I didn’t belong.
Then one day, a simple conversation changed everything.
Arun Edwin, a classmate, said, "You are inferior to none and superior to none. You are unique. You are made in the image of God." Those words pierced through the fog I had lived under for years. They gave me permission to believe something radically different. My value wasn’t determined by fluency, fashion, or face. It had already been given to me by my Creator.
The transformation was slow but steady. Today, I speak, write, lead, and influence with confidence. Most people would never believe that I once struggled to speak to anyone. But I remember. And I remind myself often. Not just of my identity, but of the humility that comes from knowing it was grace that lifted me.
Words can bind or liberate. Speak the ones that set you free.
# Action Items
- Reflect on recurring negative thoughts about yourself. Ask: “Who told me this? Is it true in light of God’s Word?” Consider discussing these with a mentor or journaling to examine their roots.
- Speak life-giving words to someone who seems withdrawn or insecure today. You may never know the ripple effect.
- Repeat daily: “I am inferior to none. I am superior to none. I am unique because I am made in the image of God.”
