The Final Lap Is the Brightest

Building a flywheel of success for life and career

"The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day." — Proverbs 4:18

Our culture has a strange timeline for life. It tells us that once we cross 60, we start slowing down. Retirement becomes the finish line. The days become quieter, our impact softer, and eventually, we just fade away.

But Proverbs gives us a different picture. It says the righteous shine ever brighter. Not dimmer, not slower. Brighter. That means your final days are meant to be your most radiant. Your final years could be your most impactful. And your last breath, your brightest.

Caleb was 85 when he claimed a mountain for himself. Jesus said no one lights a lamp to hide it. If God is lighting you, He is placing you where others can see and be guided. That includes your later years. Maybe that’s when your voice carries the most weight. Maybe that’s when your story reaches the most hearts.

Personally, I don’t believe in retirement the way the world sees it. I may stop working in a formal job, but I don’t plan to stop working. I see these next decades as a chance to double down. To write more, teach more, bless more. Maybe on my final day, I’ll preach in the morning, receive an award in the evening, and fall asleep full of joy, only to wake up in glory.

We don’t slow down because we age. We slow down when we stop feeding our soul. But when you stay rooted in the Word, your inner light only grows stronger.

You are not fading away. You are reaching your brightest moment.

# Action Items

  • Reflect on any limiting beliefs you’ve absorbed about aging and retirement. Write down what Scripture says instead.
  • Choose one gift or skill you’ve underused and begin developing it with new energy this week.
  • Meditate on Proverbs 4:18 each morning. Ask God how He wants to use your life to shine even brighter.
