Got a certificate on "Introduction to management consulting"

In 30 years, never really sat through an entire online course. Completing it feels good.

This January (2025), I completed "Introduction to management consulting" course on Coursera. I dedicated about 30 minutes each day to the course. This experience was significant for me, as it marked my first formal certification since graduating in 1994.

There are three main reasons why I decided to take this course:

First, after my graduation, I developed a dislike for rote learning. Many educational programs I encountered relied heavily on multiple-choice questions for issuing final certificate, which didn't truly assess my understanding of the material. Although I have read many books and gained practical experience that helped me become a Chief Technology Officer, I had never taken exams or earned certificates after college. I wanted to challenge myself to push through this barrier, and I’m glad I did.

The second reason for taking the course is that I have a history of starting projects but not finishing them. I often begin courses on Coursera and drop them in-between or develop apps that I never launch. Similarly, I would start writing e-books but never complete them. I wanted to focus on one project and see it through to completion. Finishing this course in January 2025 was a personal victory for me.

Lastly, as a Chief Technology Officer, I often participate in sales calls where I hear the term 'consultative sales.' I wanted to understand what consulting means in this context. The course was taught by an experienced management consultant, which provided me with valuable insights.

I feel good about completing this course, and I plan to pursue more certificates in the days to come.
