The Power of a Morning Routine: Build Momentum for a Productive Day
Success comes from putting the ordinary on autopilot so you have time for the extraordinary.
A champion doesn't become a champion in the ring, he's merely recognized in the ring. His ‘becoming’ happens during his daily routine.” - Joe Louis
Each morning, I wake up—5:30 AM sharp. No alarms needed. No second-guessing.
It’s a habit planted by my father in my childhood, now deeply rooted, as natural as breathing. No matter the season, no matter the circumstance, my day begins the same way—with discipline, intention, and purpose.
# My Morning Routine: The Non-Negotiables
🟢 Wake up at 5:30 AM – A habit ingrained for decades.
🟢 First things first – A trip to the washroom, brushing my teeth, and stepping on the scale. Small signals to my mind that the day has begun.
🟢 Hydration – Three glasses of warm water with a pinch of salt. Simple, effective.
# Then Comes Prayer – A Routine with Purpose
Each day, my prayers have a focus:
✅ Monday – Friends from college.
✅ Tuesday – My church members.
✅ Wednesday – My family.
✅ Thursday – Myself and my work.
✅ Friday – My country, its leaders, and wisdom in power.
✅ Saturday – Friends who walk alongside me.
✅ Sunday – The church services I’m about to attend.
# Time to Move – No Excuses
🏃 Jogging – Five kilometers with my eldest son, chatting along the way.
🏋️ Strength Training & Aerobics – Pushing myself to be stronger than yesterday.
🏊♀️ Swimming – Gliding through water refreshes me. Usually we swim as a family
(one of the above; Sunday is off)
# Sharpening the Mind and Strengthening Relationships
🥣 Breakfast – Not just a meal, but deep conversations with my sons, dissecting ideas and lessons—part of our homeschooling journey.
🙏 Couple’s Prayer – A few minutes with my wife before the day’s work begins. A habit we’ve kept for nearly five years.
By mid-morning, I have:
✔ Fed my body
✔ Strengthened my spirit
✔ Sharpened my mind
✔ Connected with those I love
The day no longer feels like a mountain to climb, but a course already set. The race has begun, and I have momentum on my side.
# Why Routine Matters
❌ No debating: Should I? Maybe later?
✅ Just action. Just progress.
A strong morning routine removes hesitation, builds momentum, and makes distractions weaker. When the first few hours have clarity and purpose, the rest of the day follows suit.
If you haven’t yet built a morning routine, start small. Simple steps. Build on them. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.
